Using vbscript to install printers
It is all basic Windows administration and deployment. You cannot istall a 32 bit diver on a 64 bit system. You need to aquire the corerct 64 bit driver. In 64 bits all drivers and kernel components can only be 64 bit. Programs can be 64 or 32 as a process can be run in 32 bit emulation. You completely ignore the question and go on and on about general printing while the question is how to use vbscript to add a network printer and specify the driver to be used.
Windows tries to download the driver everytime even if there is already a usefull printer driver at hand. You could also go back and complain about the Archimedes or disagree with Gallileo. What are the 3 scripts you retrieve and copy into the local scripts folder? Are they modified templates? Or, can I get some help in writing my own? In order to avoid having the scripts in different places with the OS I just made sure it used the location I provided by copying the scripts to the local machine. Got a lot of different printers at the school I work at, I modified the script and put it on a USB drive and it works like a charm!
Thanks for saving me a lot of work! To make it work, just search for unidrv. There are 2 drawbacks though. It makes the install take a few minutes as it searches the.
Also, The help file will not use localization different languages just the one you pulled out. But then, who uses the help file on a printer anyway?
Big thanks, it's very helpfull But I have a question - I have some script running troubles with adding of my Xerox WC with messages: "Unable to add printer driver xxx Win32 error code " "Unable to add printer xxx Error ox Generic failure Operation PutInstance Provider Win32 Provider Description The printer driver is unknown. Win error code " These messages apear because of windows security warning that "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software" and I have to choose "Install this driver software anyway" when I install the driver mannually.
The printers use either the Xerox Universal driver or the HP Universal driver, and these drivers are already loaded on the PC included in the image. That ITPro link led me exactly where I wanted.
For anyone curious, here's the script I came up with:. I've seen that link before. It's not exactly what I'm looking for, but if it's all I have to work with than so be it, I'll see what I can do.
I thought I remembered seeing a script somewhere that would take the name of a driver that was already loaded on the PC at one point. Can't seem to find it.
