Casio protrek prt - 201 manual
I have only had it for a couple of days, so I only rated it 4 stars, but it probably deserves 5. The band was way too big so I made a trip to the jewellers to have a link taken out - now perfect.
As others say, the manual is hopeless if you have old eyes: tiny booklet with tiny print. But I downloaded it online and printed it off and I am working my way through it.
There is lots to learn. I had to set latitude and longtitude for my city Perth, Western Australia and the instructions for doing that were easy to follow. I can now see what time sunrise and sunset are at the push of a button. But if you are travelling then you have to redo this exercise for each place you visit, which sounds like a pain.
I have been checking out the barometer, it seems to consistently read 4 hPa below what the Bureau of Met says their reading is. I don't really care about this as long as it is consistent, it is the trend which matters. There are instructions on recalibrating this function, but at this stage I am not going to bother.
The graph of readings from the barometer is smaller than I expected, but it is usable. So far, a great watch.
Can't go wrong with Casio! I have an analogue ABC watch but wanted to switch to a digital one as I think they are more robust no moving parts. I chose this one as it does everything I want it to do and with this model you can actually change the strap unlike my analogue ABC watch also made by Casio. I now wear this on a Nato strap and its very comfortable. The only thing I don't like about this watch is that the inner chapter ring does not quite line up at the 12 position.
The bezel turns both ways and it is quite stiff so does not turn by accident. I find it receives the time signal really easily no need to be at the window. Another slight negative I just remembered is that sometimes its a little tricky reading the date but not a real concern. As for the sensors, I have tested the temperature sensor and it is very accurate off the wrist. I have not tested the other sensors but I would recommend this watch for time keeping and other functions.
Only had a few weeks and its my first watch outside of a mechanical self wind so take with a grain of salt. It is accurate as long as you don't wear it for temps but that is expected, takes about 20 minutes for it to read correctly. If you have smaller wrist like me you will be changing the band. The altimeter is dead on and does the 1 meter like advertised. Barometric feature only works if your outside so if you are in your truck for an hour then climb out and head to your stand it is going to obviously rise so don't rely on it to warn you of bad weather with a drop in numbers unless you are out first lite and been outside for a while.
I gave only 4 stars because of the design. The buttons keep hitting stuff and even changed once to "RIO" and all my info was wrong. Buttons should be "recessed" inside a shield. This watch is awesome. If you love the outdoors or the idea of always having the necessary survival tools on your wrist, then this is the watch for you. It takes a little getting used to because there are so many features to this watch but it's definitely worth the money if you're going to spend the time to know how to use it properly.
I've only had it for about 3 weeks so far and the only negative thing that's happened is that the thermometer consistently reads about 10 degrees F warmer than the actual temperature. I've just made a mental note and adjusted accordingly to get an idea of the current temperature. Other than that, I love the watch and am completely satisfied with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this watch, however, don't waste your money if you're not going to spend the necessary time to figure out how to use all its features.
The watch is functional, stylish, and accurate.. The only thing that Casio needs to work on is the comfort of wearing the watch. After having it on the wrist for a short period it becomes somewhat of a task to wear.
The band is stiff and not as flexible as it should be and the back of the watch needs some design improvements, it rubs the wrist and actually caused a cut to my wrist. Although I usually wear my watches loose, and after loosening this one even more it still was a real pain to wear for more than a few minutes. If you can't wear it in comfort, then obviously it becomes one of my least favorite timepieces and that's a shame for such a functional, stylish watch.
This multi-functional watch does a lot, but the user interface is complicated. My main motivation in buying this model was to track vertical feet skied. I think that I can figure it out by carefully referencing and hand-outlining a step-by-step procedure, but every time I start to do this I get glassy-eyed and fall asleep.
Maybe I will figure it out over the summer so it will be intuitive for next ski season, but I don't think a customer should be expected to do this. A YouTube how to video on the topic would be much appreciated. This is a very good watch for me.
It fits well better than the black resin model and is not too large as I have a large wrist. It has all of the info that I want at a glance and with the push of a button I can get more. I spend a lot of time outdoors, the compass and barometer features are very useful. I would recommend this watch to anyone regardless if you're an outdoors person or not, the watch is just great.
If I could change one thing it would be the light. I would ask Casio for the white LED instead of the green but again that's my personal preference. It's not a deal breaker. I love the watch. EDC Watch for everyday use that I gave to my wife as a present, and she loves it I live one mile from the the San Andreas Fault so we try and prepare for any emergency. Even in the Winter time my watch has never dropped power.
I love my watch, but I love my wifes too Trying too trade her with no luck. Thanks snakes4us. Very happy with product. Big face and hands easy to tell the time. The other functions are digital and are a little harder to read for me without reading glasses.
