Gcc produce listing file

The -Wa is an option for the assembler which is staged after the compiler. The options passed to the assembler follow right after with the comma ,. With this, for every source file compiled it will place the listing file into the same output folder as the object file:.

Another way is to generate the listing file from the compiler output object file. For this I can use the GNU objdump utility. You are commenting using your WordPress. Prashant Kumar Andrew Edgecombe Andrew Edgecombe It's more like MASM e. I do highly recommend it as a nice format to read, especially if you like to write in NASM syntax though. Better use gcc -O -fverbose-asm -S — Basile Starynkevitch.

Makefile will not get information about object files times so, it will compile already compiled files. Frank Frank Thanks a lot! I believe you got the concept backwards?! Your example: gcc -c file1. DevSolar DevSolar DevSolar: I know that Makefiles intendend to process only the changed files and to gain a speedup this way.

In such a way it would not be necessary to startup the compiler for each file individually. Instead we could do a "bunch-compile" with only one call to gcc. Vokuhila-Oliba: Or you could make the executable gcc which is merely a front-end to the compiler proper invoke the compiler proper as some kind of server process, which spawns threads instead of setting up a new process on each call.

Three observations: 1 This would help already existing Makefiles instead of requiring a new, custom syntax; 2 I am not at all sure if GCC doesn't do this already; 3 In any case this would be an issue to put up to the GCC mailing list, not StackOverflow. Meanwhile I found a "half-way" solution by using the -combine option.

This option is deprecated since gcc 4. Having additional flag for directory only must change meening of "-c". For example: gcc -c file. I am trying to figure out the same thing. Jason Orendorff Jason Orendorff You can use it together with bakefile, which will generate everything for you, once you have specified your requirements in an XML file.

Oops, sorry, I see autotools were already mentioned in comments. Oh well! This is a crude way of doing things and I would prefer above answers using Makefiles. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. Please use -iquote instead for -I directories before the -I- and remove the -I- option. In addition, -I- inhibits the use of the directory of the current file directory as the first search directory for include " file ".

There is no way to override this effect of -I-. Specify prefix as the prefix for subsequent -iwithprefix options. Append dir to the prefix specified previously with -iprefix , and add the resulting directory to the include search path.

This option is like the --sysroot option, but applies only to header files except for Darwin targets, where it applies to both header files and libraries. See the --sysroot option for more information. Do not search the standard system directories for header files.

This option is not meant to be used by the user, but only passed by the driver.
